ABOUT DIETARY DEPARTMENT

The dietary department has the responsibility of preparing, nourishing and appetizing meals for the inpatients at The Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital. Meals are prepared at the satellite kitchen. Our dietary department works closely with the doctors to provide the tailor made diet for each patient.


The  Department of  Dietetics of The Tamil Nadu  Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital is functioning with an Experienced, Qualified & Registered Dietician supported by a team   of dedicated staff to provide holistic and integrative dietary services to the Patients.


The dietary department is well equipped to meet the individualized modified dietary needs of the   hospitalized patients.


The hospital dietary services provide nutritionally adequate and hygienically prepared quality food to all the  hospitalized patients with emphasis on the therapeutic and special diets, thus improving the health status.

Services Provided

Inpatient Dietary Services

Individually  sealed packs of customized diets are served to the In-patients at their bedside to meet their nutritional requirements. Based on their clinical condition and nutritional status the diets are planned and preplated, hygienically in food grade plastic transparent trays.

The various Therapeutic diets provided by the Inpatient diet pantry include

 

Liquid diet

    • Clear liquid
    • Full fluid
    • Non Communicable Diseases liquid
    • Renal liquid
    • High Protein liquid

     

    Standard  diet  (Routine hospital diet)


    The above diet is modified to soft standard & bland as and when required.

    Non communicable Diseases diet (NCD)

    Specially planned to meet the needs of Diabetic, Cardiac and Hypertensive patients is the NCD diet is modified to Soft NCD, Bland NCD, Renal NCD, Salt free NCD, Vitamin K restricted NCD&Potassium rich NCD etc. as and when required.

     

    High Protein diet (HPD)


     Specially planned to meet the needs of Oncology, Post Operative patients requiring high protein diets. HPD diet is modified to Soft standard & Bland as and when required.


    Renal Diet


    Specially planned to meet the nutritional requirements of patients with Chronic Kidney Disease, Chronic Kidney Disease on Peritoneal Dialysis or Hemo Dialysis  with or without Diabetes.

     

    Acute Special / Enteral Feeds:


    Specially planned to meet the needs of patients prescribed enteral nutrition (Naso gastric Feeding, Gastrostomy, Jejunostomy, etc.)  


    Special Diet


    Patients requiring further modifications in consistently Carbohydrate, Protein, Fats, Minerals, Electrolytes, Vitamins and Fibre are provided special diet

    Outpatient Dietetic Services

     

    Clinical nutrition OPD is located at the 3rd floor Room No. 3032. Clinical nutrition OPD ensures individual, personalized attention to the patient referred by the Consultants.


    Individual nutrition counseling is provided depending upon the patient’s disease conditions to the Inpatients and Outpatients at the OPD.

    • Assessing nutritional status patients

    • Calculating and determining the dietary requirements of patients

    • Developing and implementing nutrition care plants

    • Providing dietetic counseling

    • Planning specific dietary requirements of patients post discharge

    • Establishing clinical dietary standards

    • Developing dietary protocols pertaining to specialized medical conditions.


    In order to have good dietary compliance, the dietician provides  an individualized menu plan in accordance with the family dietary habits to bring about the therapeutic effectiveness.

    Academics Activities


    Training in Clinical & Therapeutic Nutrition is imparted to Dietetics interns (RD interns), medical students, nursing students and Para – medical staff in the field of nutrition.



    Research Activities


    Clinical and Therapeutic nutrition related research activities is a value added service of the department.
